History

Originally DLR trains from Canning Town ran easterly to Royal Victoria and on to Beckton. On 2 December 2005 the King George V branch (since extended to Woolwich Arsenal) was opened and gave another, more southeasterly, route on which there are now four intermediate stations, West Silvertown, Pontoon Dock, London City Airport, and King George V.

Location

The track through Pontoon Dock parallels the (A1020) North Woolwich Road, and gives excellent views to the south across the Thames Barrier Park of the Thames Barrier.[2] Pontoon Dock station is near the small eponymous quay and the Barrier Point residential complex,[2] but much of its neighbourhood consists of industrial estates, notably that of Brunner Mond, where the infamous Silvertown explosion occurred and where there is now a small memorial.[2]
A crossover at Pontoon Dock allows trains to reverse in service disruptions.

London Bus routes 474 and school routes 678.

Services

The service interval through Pontoon Dock between Bank, in the City of London and Woolwich Arsenal is ten minutes at all times with an extra peak time Blackwall-Woolwich Arsenal shuttle. The additional shuttle train is scheduled to arrive two minutes in advance of the Bank train in order to ease capacity problems on the main Bank service. From Pontoon Dock it is twenty minutes to Bank, two minutes to London City Airport, eight minutes to Woolwich Arsenal, five minutes to Canning Town, and ten minutes to Poplar.
